about

A sardonic breakup song. The intention was to camouflage this as a sonic tug-of-war between edgy Detroit proto-punk and sunny-side up Tex-Mex pop with self-mockery and anger galore. Lyrics are straight to the point and delivered as mini-statements with almost mantra-like repetition to portray an obsessive state of mind of a non-believer. This song came out of Dima's vault and was quickly added to the primary repertoire of the band. For this recording, John contributed a breezy, Santana-inspired guitar solo and Nate offered relentlessly mounting tension of drums and keyboards.

lyrics

let’s be friends
your last thrill
let’s be friends
at your will
let’s be friends
standing still
let’s be friends
words that kill

I’m busy changing gears
when everything’s wrong
oh, are you still here?
well, I’m already gone…

let’s be friends
oh, that’s too bad
let’s be friends
you said
let’s be friends
your last thrill
let’s be friends
words that kill

I’m busy changing gears
when everything’s wrong
oh, are you still here?
well, I’m already gone…

The name of some seedy downtown strip joint? A nod to Lake Michigan? After all, these guys do hail from the windy city... Read more here: photos.thedirtyblue.com/about ... less
